KITT PHILIPPA FARENHEIT

Kitt Philippa is undoubtedly one to watch. Not only has this rising star been supported extensively across the BBC airwaves and the blogosphere, all three of the first singles from their upcoming debut album Human were nominated for Best Song by the Northern Irish Music Prize. Today, we’re turning our attention to another song from the record - ‘Fahrenheit’. It’s an extraordinary presentation of Kitt’s intuition for song composition as each of the sounds, samples and pieces of instrumentation pivot around one another throughout this complex track. There’s something strikingly Nick Murphy or recent Bon Iver and the jazz-structure electronics that make up the core of this track, as well as the dramatic vocal effects put into play here. From Kitt’s perspective, they say: “There's a heaviness in the lyrics, and an intensity to their delivery. The cross-section of the track probably reveals difficulty interacting with self and others, at times.” This complexity of social interaction is uniquely reflected in the instrumentation, as Kitt illuminates “I very much see all the individual parts like components of a greater structure - they have their own characters - but how they work together interested me.” Listen out for more from the forthcoming debut Human LP out on October 11th via Paragon Records. - Hannah Thacker
